Best DNA tests for fitness and hormones in the UK (2026)

The at-home DNA tests you can buy in the UK that report on hormones, testosterone-related genes or fitness, compared on price, sample, what they read and who each suits. Prices were checked on each company’s own site on 30 October 2026.

We make one of these tests

GeneticEdge is ours, and it is listed first because it is the one built around this question. Every other entry says what it does better, and we link to the comparisons.

Not on the list, and why

  • Muhdo (£250 DNA, £375 with epigenetics): good for biological age and lifestyle, but its DNA kit has no hormone category.
  • Marek Diagnostics ($500): the only consumer androgen receptor CAG repeat test we found, but it appears to sell in the US only.
  • Nebula / DNA Complete (from $245): whole-genome sequencing with raw files, but no hormone report, and customers outside the US pay to return samples.

If you want your hormone levels, you need a blood test

No DNA test measures testosterone, oestradiol or SHBG. UK private options include Medichecks’ Sports Hormone tests (£109 and £159, aimed at athletes and people using performance-enhancing drugs), Forth’s Male Hormone finger-prick test (£89) and Thriva’s Testosterone Profile (from £62.10 on subscription). Your GP can order NHS blood tests free. See DNA test vs blood test.

How we chose

We included tests sold to UK customers that report on hormones or testosterone-related genes, read each company’s own product pages on 30 October 2026, and noted anything we couldn’t confirm. We didn’t accept payment for any listing.

Questions

What is the best DNA test for hormones in the UK?

For a focused hormone report, GeneticEdge (our own test, waitlist) and Blue Horizon's DNAblue Wellman (£162.25) are the two UK options aimed at men's hormone genetics. Lifecode Gx has a detailed hormones report sold through practitioners. FitnessGenes is broader and fitness-led.

Can a DNA test measure my testosterone?

No. Every test on this page reads genetic variants. To measure testosterone, oestradiol or SHBG you need a blood test, from your GP or a private lab such as Medichecks, Forth or Thriva.

Is there a UK test for the androgen receptor CAG repeat?

We didn't find a UK lab selling an androgen receptor CAG repeat test directly to the public. Marek Diagnostics sells one for $500, but it appears to be US only. NHS genetic services test the CAG repeat when Kennedy disease is suspected.

Can I use my 23andMe or AncestryDNA data instead?

Partly. Their chips include some studied variants in genes like SHBG and CYP19A1, which you can see free with our raw DNA checker, but they can't read repeat lengths or whole-gene deletions.

Are these tests regulated?

Direct-to-consumer genetic tests aren't diagnostic, and NHS services advise caution with their health results. Look for a named laboratory, a clear privacy policy, and a report that says where the evidence is uncertain.
